ArmInfo. Starting this autumn, citizens of the Republic of Armenia will be able to apply for new biometric passports and ID cards under a modernized civil  documentation system. Nelly Davtyan, Acting Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, announced  the updated fee structure and procedural guidelines during a press conference on August 14, 2026.

ArmInfo.More than 40,000 forcibly displaced residents from Nagorno-Karabakh have been granted citizenship of the Republic of Armenia, according to Nelly  Davtyan, Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Speaking at a press conference on  August 14, 2026, Davtyan provided an update on the integration and legal status of individuals displaced following the events of  September 2023.  Out of the total number of new citizens, over 12,000 are minors, she noted.

ArmInfo. Armenia is set to reform its approach to granting citizenship, with officials  signaling that a new legislative package will be introduced in the  near future, as stated by Armen Ghazaryan, Acting Deputy Minister of  Internal Affairs, during a press conference on August 14, 2026. He  noted that the current framework must be re-evaluated because, for  years, citizenship has been perceived primarily as a "transactional  tool" rather than a status carrying deeper civic significance.

ArmInfo.  Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan has submitted a  formal cassation appeal to the Court of Cassation, challenging a June  25, 2026 ruling by the Criminal Court of Appeal concerning Archbishop  Mikael Ajapahyan, primate of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian  Apostolic Church, as reported by Ajapahyan's defense team. They also  stated that the prosecution is seeking to overturn the appellate  court's decision. 

ArmInfo. An Armenian court has ordered a two-month pre-trial detention for Martun  Grigoryan, a former member of the National Assembly of the Republic  of Armenia.

Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, who serves  as the chief aide to Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei for  Armed Forces Affairs, has made a very important statement regarding  this issue. Essentially, he accused the Armenian side of falsifying  Iran's stance on TRIPP. Levon Zurabyan, Deputy Chairman of the  Armenian National Congress, wrote this on his Facebook page.
