ArmInfo. Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian won the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Final, a Fischer Random Rapid tournament held in South Africa. This was reported by the press service of the Armenian Chess Federation.
In the final, Aronian defeated the world's highest-rated player, former classical world champion Magnus Carlsen, with a score of 1.5:0.5.
Aronian represented the United States. On this occasion, the grandmaster wrote on his Facebook page that he was incredibly happy and proud to win this tournament. "The whole year was amazing, my family and fans were so supportive! Thank you all for believing in me!" he remarked.
