CIS hopes for Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement 

ArmInfo. The CIS hopes that the documents signed in Washington between Armenia and Azerbaijan will serve as the basis for a peace agreement. This was stated by CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev before the next meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the  Commonwealth Member States to the Statutory and Other CIS Bodies.

"Just as we all in the Commonwealth countries were pleased with the  signing of the treaty on the interstate border between Kyrgyzstan and  Tajikistan, so now we in the Commonwealth countries are very pleased  with the signing of this joint declaration. We believe that this is  one of the stages on the path to the final settlement of  disagreements and the achievement of a peace treaty between  Azerbaijan and Armenia," he said, TASS reports.

Lebedev added that the peace agreement "will allow for more  fully-fledged meetings of the CIS supreme bodies to be held on the  territory of these republics." "These republics can, I hope as the  Secretary General, participate more actively in the activities of the  Commonwealth of Independent States," the CIS Secretary General  emphasized.
