ArmInfo.  Islamabad attaches great importance to strengthening its ties with Moscow,  Yerevan, and Baku. Pakistani Ambassador to Moscow Faisal Niyaz  Tirmizi stated this in an interview with TASS.

Commenting on the establishment of diplomatic relations between  Pakistan and Armenia amid the resolution of tensions between Baku and  Yerevan, as well as the appointment of Armenia's first-ever  ambassador to Pakistan, the diplomat emphasized that "Armenia,  Azerbaijan, and the Caucasus have much in common with Pakistan." "We  haven't had diplomatic relations with Armenia for many years, and I'm  very pleased that recent events have led to a growing recognition of  the need to establish normal contacts with Armenia,"  Faisal Niyaz  Tirmizi noted. 

"If you look at recent events, I've traveled extensively through  Dagestan, Chechnya, Sochi, Krasnodar, and I've been to Azerbaijan.  Historically, there's a tremendous connection between the Caucasus  region and Pakistan. I see many prospects between Pakistan, Armenia,  and the entire Caucasus region." "If you go to Azerbaijan, you'll see  that one of the largest districts of Baku is called Multan Saray  (Multani Caravanserai - TASS), and Multan is the third or fourth  largest city in Pakistan. It's the historic city where Alexander the  Great was wounded, and later died of his wounds in Babylon," the  ambassador continued. "There's a significant Armenian population in  Pakistan. Few people know this, but one of the country's highest  military award recipients was a Pakistani soldier of Armenian  descent."

"I've also been to Dubai. Many marriages have taken place there  between Armenians and Pakistanis. This fosters contacts between  people, develops trade, and promotes culture. And I believe that  Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Caucasus have much in common with  Pakistan," the diplomat noted.

 Faisal Niyaz Tirmizi said that even as a child, he dreamed of  reading books about the history of the Caucasus. "I've had the  privilege of visiting many countries and lands in this region. We  have historical ties with the Caucasus, and Armenia is a very  important part of them. I see how people-to-people contacts and  business ties are now being established between Armenia and  Pakistan," he concluded.
