ArmInfo. Turkey is an active participant in the US-Israeli war against Iran, ensuring uninterrupted communications. Ankara is not an innocent bystander in this process, as it has broader interests. This is the view of former US Marine intelligence officer, former UN weapons inspector in Iraq, and Huffington Post columnist Scott Ritter.
In this vein, Ritter recalled that Turkey favors securing a 46-kilometer corridor through Armenia that would connect mainland Azerbaijan with its exclave of Nakhichevan. US Vice President J.D. Vance visited the region a month ago and actively promoted this idea. However, Iran opposed this corridor, threatening military intervention if the project was implemented.
Therefore, Ritter believes that Azerbaijan and Turkey are using the conflict to further destabilize the region in order to quickly secure the so-called 'Zangezur Corridor' and then gain US support. Much is happening behind the scenes. The Turks are not innocent bystanders in this conflict; they are actively involved, the American expert stated.
In this context, he noted that Turkey's involvement in this conflict is driven by broader geopolitical interests. Ritter is confident that, given the current reality, Iran has the right to hold Turkey accountable for its actions.
Regarding Russia and China's assistance to Iran in restoring its defense capabilities after the 12-day war last summer, the military expert recalled that the Islamic Republic is an independent power and its capabilities should not be underestimated. Iran doesn't produce missiles because North Korea provides it with military technology, nor because Russia provides its own. Iran developed these technologies independently, he noted.
Ritter also noted that Iran is constantly improving its ballistic missiles through intelligence. According to him, countries with modern offensive weapons technology will always outpace countries with missile defenses. The expert emphasized that this could explain what is happening in the skies over Israel today. The missile defense can't keep up with the Iranians, he added.
At the same time, Ritter believes Israel will pay a heavy price for the assassination of Iran's supreme leader. Iran is no longer standing on ceremony; it has taken off its gloves and will fight with its fists, he noted.
