ArmInfo. Samvel Karapetyan, a Russian businessman of Armenian descent, head of the Tashir Group of Companies, will make his first major statement next week. This was announced on his Facebook page by his nephew, Tashir Group Vice President and coordinator of the "Our Way" (Mer Dzevov) movement, Narek Karapetyan.
In the coming weeks, he announced Samvel Karapetyan's program for Armenia's economy and security.
"As an entrepreneur, Samvel Karapetyan has helped tens of thousands of Armenians, modernized educational complexes and hospitals, and supported people struggling with poverty. As a political leader, as the leader of Armenia, he will be able to achieve significant success. He will strengthen the economic situation of the entire population of Armenia," the movement's coordinator wrote.
As a reminder, it was announced today that Samvel Karapetyan's pretrial detention has been changed from pretrial detention to house arrest.
The businessman was detained on June 18 by law enforcement officers, and a court later remanded him in custody on charges of calling for the overthrow of the constitutional order due to his support for the Armenian Apostolic Church. He was later charged with money laundering. Notably, Karapetyan's arrest was preceded by threatening posts from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which lawyers consider an attempt to directly interfere with the investigation and law enforcement. Following Karapetyan's arrest, the authorities effectively took over the management of the Eclectic Networks of Armenia company from the Karapetyan family, appointing Romanos Petrosyan, a member of the Civil Contract party, as its manager. ENA was also stripped of its license.
