Yerevan mayor dissatisfied with work of municipal snow-clearing  services 

ArmInfo.Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan is dissatisfied with the work of municipal services in clearing snow from the city streets.

At a working meeting at the city's municipality, Avinyan pointed out  that proper oversight of businesses responsible for clearing snow  from the areas in front of stores and service providers has not been  exercised.  The mayor noted that four or five administrative  districts in Yerevan have not issued a single fine for the  obligations imposed on these businesses, for which there is no  explanation. Furthermore, Avinyan noted, many of these districts'  managers have not been properly informed of their obligations. "For  example, on Kievyan Street, where I was strolling with my brother,  the owner of a small store, while cleaning the area, noticed me and  declared that the mayor's office should pay him for the work he'd  done. He's unaware that cleaning the area is his responsibility, and  this responsibility was established by a decision of the Council of  Elders. Condominiums are also involved in the street cleaning issue  and are also obligated to fulfill their obligations," the mayor  noted.

He added that at the end of last year, the issue of bringing in  additional snow removal personnel was discussed and approved to avoid  a dire situation like the one that arose from January 1st to 3rd.  However, this potential was not fully realized. "Understandably," the  mayor continued, "many were celebrating the New Year, but at the end  of 2025, we agreed to work 24/7 in an emergency." Avinyan noted that  the district administrations collectively employ approximately 300  employees who should have been involved in imposing various fines for  sanitary violations. "When I compare the reports drawn up for each of  these 300 employees, comparing them with reports for public order  violations or construction violations, the numbers are simply  shameful. This issue requires serious changes, which we will  definitely discuss soon. Constantly presenting yourself as a good  person is not a good practice. Fines are not issued lightly. Every  business entity is obliged to comply with the decisions of the  Council of Elders," Avinyan said, instructing Arsen Karoyan, head of  the Public Utilities Department, to conduct an inventory and  determine the purchase of additional multi-purpose equipment.

As a reminder, at the end of last year, Kamo Areyan, adviser to the  mayor of Yerevan, reported that all city services were fully prepared  for possible heavy precipitation. As the saying goes, they wanted the  best, but it turned out as usual.
