Khachaturyan: Armenia highly values Turkmenistan`s contribution to  international peace and security

ArmInfo.  The General Assembly resolution declaring 2025 the International Year of Peace and Confidence provides an opportunity to advance the peaceful  resolution of disputes and good-neighborly relations among states, as  stated by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan during his speech at  the event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's  permanent neutrality in Ashgabat.

According to the press service of the Armenian president,  Khachaturyan first thanked President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the  government of Turkmenistan for hosting the event and for their  consistent leadership in promoting peace, trust, and neutrality  within the United Nations. " The title of today's plenary session  "Peace and Trust: Unity Goals for a Sustainable Future" captures the  essence of what our world needs most today. While conflicts,  divisions, human rights violations and global insecurity challenge  the international order, we should reaffirm our commitment to  multilateralism anchored on the purposes and principles of the UN  Charter. The General Assembly resolution proclaiming 2025 as the  International Year of Peace and Trust creates a momentum to advance  peaceful settlement of disputes and good-neighborly relations among  nations.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's recognition as  a permanently neutral state by the UN. Permanent neutrality has  proven to be a crucial factor for peace and stability in the region.  We commend Turkmenistan's contribution to international peace and  security through promoting the objectives of neutrality, trust and  dialogue. Armenia has always supported initiatives of Turkmenistan in  the United Nations to this end. Peace is not just the absence of war  - it requires consistent efforts to promote dialogue, justice, human  rights and dignity. Building trust among states and peoples is an  important foundation that allows peace to endure.

Guided by the United Nations Charter and international law, the  Government of Armenia is resolute in sustaining peace in the region  of South Caucasus. As you are aware, during the trilateral meeting in  Washington D.C. on 8 August this year the foreign ministers of  Armenia and Azerbaijan initiated the peace agreement between the two  countries. On the same day the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, the  United States of America, as a witness, signed a Joint Declaration,  which will enable full opening of transport communications in the  region. 

Implementation of the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative and its  integral component the Trump Route for International Peace and  Prosperity (TRIPP) connectivity project will promote economic growth,  dialogue and people-to-people contacts, thus contributing to trust,  stability and prosperity. This historic achievement gives confidence  that we are opening a new chapter of lasting peace, prosperity,  security and economic cooperation in the South Caucasus. We count on  the support of our international partners in advancing peace in our  region.

As we celebrate thirty years of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality  and the International Year of Peace and Trust, let us renew our  common resolve - to advance peace and trust through dialogue, mutual  understanding and cooperation," Khachaturyan concluded.
