On December 11, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs Heriknaz Tigranyan received the Secretary General of the International Trade Union Confederation Luc Triangle and the Executive Secretary of the Organization Anton Leppik. The President of the Confederation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Armenia Elen Manaseryan and the Deputy President of the Organization Tiruhi Nazaretyan accompanied the guests.
At the meeting, the interlocutors discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, which, in particular, referred to the strengthening of trade unions in Armenia, the reform of sectoral legislation, ensuring healthy and safe working conditions for workers, and legislative work being carried out in that direction.
The guests, in particular, highlighted the importance of Armenia's ratification of the Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019, underscoring the implementation of its provisions, which will become a toolkit, ensuring the safety of women in particular in the workplace from harassment and violence.
Reference was also made to other sectoral conventions that related to workers' freedoms, their rights to strike, and the actions being taken to reform Armenia's national legislation in this regard.
At the guests' request, the Committee Chair Heriknaz Tigranyan reflected upon the implemented and ongoing work in the field to reform the RA law on Trade Unions. The aim of the amendments is to have a strong and powerful tool for protecting the workers' rights.
In this context Heriknaz Tigranyan underlined the importance of having financially independent trade union from the employer.
The interlocutors emphasized the continuity of cooperation.
