ArmInfo.Armenia wants to remove age restrictions for couples who want to use assisted reproductive technologies, including donor programs and surrogacy, to have a child.
During a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Healthcare on October 15, Deputy Minister of Health Armen Gasparyan presented a bill, proposing amendments to the RA Law "On Reproductive Health and Reproductive Rights."
"Previously, we had an upper age limit of 55, and 53 in cases where the woman was expected to carry the pregnancy to term," he noted. The need for such changes arose following the Constitutional Court's decision on April 1 of this year, which declared such restrictions unconstitutional. As a result, the Armenian government had to draft legislation and submit it to the National Assembly within three months of the decision taking effect. The relevant committee gave a positive opinion on the proposed draft law.
