ArmInfo. According to a ruling by the US Immigration Court, controversial blogger and chairman of the Democracy, Law Discipline (DLD) party Vardan Ghukasyan will not be extradited to Armenia. This was announced on the party's Facebook page.
"At the same time, the court found that Vardan Ghukasyan has violated immigration laws, and therefore must leave the United States," the statement reads.
As a reminder, in early February, media reports circulated that controversial video blogger Vardan Ghukasyan, better known by the nickname Dog, had been detained by US police at the request of Armenian law enforcement. The Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs declined to comment on these reports. However, the Director of Communications for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Northwest Region later reported that Vardan Ghukasyan had been detained by U.S. Customs and Immigration Services (CIS) and was in custody in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was noted that Ghukasyan faces deportation for violating U.S. residency regulations. In March, the DLD party announced Vardan Ghukasyan's release from prison. It is also worth noting that the blogger is a defendant in several criminal cases in Armenia and is on the international wanted list.
