ArmInfo. As a result of monitoring by the Office of the Human Rights Defender, alarming information was received that several days ago, Hakob Karapetyan, journalist and Yerevan Press Club representative, was subjected to violence, as noted in a statement issued by the RA Ombudsman's Office.
The statement emphasizes that Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan has repeatedly stated that any violence is categorically unacceptable and condemnable. Each case must receive a proper legal assessment, and those responsible must be held accountable. The state has clear legal obligations in this regard. Of particular importance is ensuring the unimpeded and ethical activities of individuals engaged in professional activities, including journalism, and providing guarantees for their observance. An investigation conducted by the Ombudsman's Office revealed that a criminal case has been launched and a preliminary investigation is underway. Emphasizing this circumstance, the Ombudsman considers it crucial to conduct a prompt, objective, and comprehensive investigation of such cases and to provide the public with as much information as possible on the matter. All such cases are under the direct supervision of the Ombudsman, and the necessary measures are being taken within the scope of her authority.
