ArmInfo.Peace is a long process that requires care, concern, and caution in terms of speaking, in terms of every document. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan made this statement during the government hour in Parliament.
Noting that there is a long history of hostility and bloodshed between the two nations, he emphasized the following: "We are only at the beginning of the road. Even if we sign a peace treaty soon, we still cannot say that everything is over". Mirzoyan noted that at the moment the parties are not shooting at each other, the risk of escalation is minimal, but many unresolved problems remain. The Minister named the issue of prisoners as one of the important ones, regretfully noting that there is no complete and final solution yet.
"If two countries say that they are establishing peace, then it is worth resolving humanitarian issues first," Mirzoyan said. In this vein, the Minister stated that the state's focus is on the release of prisoners, hostages, and finding out the fate of missing persons. "I assure you that these works are ongoing today and will not end tomorrow," the Foreign Minister emphasized.
He also noted that the Republic of Armenia considers the formation of a constructive environment for cooperation as the most direct and shortest path to security, development and prosperity. "Here is our centuries-old friendship with our neighbors - Georgia and Iran, although we see that not everything is always smooth in international processes around these countries either. The geopolitical situation is not clear throughout the world," he noted. At the same time, he noted that work is underway to unblock communications with the Azerbaijani side and in the direction of the delimitation process, not ruling out that there may soon be news on this topic. "People often talk about Azerbaijan passing through Armenia to Nakhichevan, but we will be unblocked to the same extent and under the same conditions," Mirzoyan said. He also touched upon the settlement of Armenian-Turkish relations, noting that the time has come to see tangible results.
The Minister also expressed hope that the intensity of contacts with the American side will increase. "You remember that we said that nothing has been agreed upon yet except what is written on paper. Therefore, there are many technical conditions that need to be discussed. It is in our interests to implement this process as quickly as possible and to come to the unblocking as quickly as possible," Mirzoayn said.
