Syunik corridor sovereign issue of Armenia, Azerbaijan - Kremlin

ArmInfo.  The issue of the corridor through Syunik is a sovereign matter for Armenia and Azerbaijan, said Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

Earlier, the Spanish online publication Periodista Digital, citing  sources, reported that Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States had  already agreed on a memorandum of understanding on the creation of a  corridor through Armenia's Syunik, which is referred to in the  document as the "Trump Bridge".

"This is a sovereign matter for Armenia and Azerbaijan. We strongly  support the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We wish both  Baku and Yerevan to sign the agreement as soon as possible," Peskov  told journalists, RIA Novosti reports. Earlier, US Ambassador to  Turkey and US Presidential Special Representative for Syria Thomas  Barrack said that the United States was ready to manage the transport  corridor near the Iranian border in an attempt to advance the  negotiations between Baku and Yerevan. The press secretary of the  Armenian Prime Minister Nazeli Baghdasaryan stated that Armenia is  not discussing the possibility of transferring control over its  territory, which connects Azerbaijan with its Nakhichevan autonomy,  to a third party.

Azerbaijan insists on the construction of the so-called Zangezur  transport corridor to connect its main territory with Nakhichevan  through Armenian Syunik.

Yerevan does not agree with the idea of the corridor and is ready to  open a road under Armenian sovereignty for Azerbaijan. In August  2024, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow is in  favor of the earliest possible conclusion of a peace treaty between  Yerevan and Baku and the unblocking of communications through the  Syunik region of Armenia.
