ArmInfo. The main priority of Armenia's security and foreign policy is diversification. This was stated on September 18 by Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan at one of the panel discussions within the framework of the Second Global Armenian Summit.
According to him, the main goal is to address the challenges that Armenia faced during the 2020 war and its aftermath, while also enhancing the country's capabilities. Grigoryan added that the Armenian government has repeatedly emphasized security and diversification as priority areas of focus for the current authorities.
"Thus, in the realm of security, we have achieved significant success, which cannot be said for the economy. Here we have not seen great success, but we continue to put in tremendous efforts to achieve it," Grigoryan said. The Secretary of the Security Council highlighted the diversification of military-technical cooperation as a defense success. "In the past, military-technical cooperation with the Russian Federation accounted for 96%. Now it is less than 10%. This is a political achievement of the past 3-4 years. Currently, we have several key partners in military-technical cooperation. One of them is India, another is France, and we are seeking out additional partners," Grigoryan explained.
At the same time, he informed that the Armenian authorities are striving to ensure that about 25-30% of military-technical production is located inside Armenia, meaning that the military industry will meet the needs of Armenia. "This is our strategic goal, and we also aim to have 4-5 partners, with each partnership accounting for no more 20% of our cooperation," the Armenian official noted. Then he discussed the topic of economic diversification, noting that all countries around the world are currently striving for this. "Armenia's strategic priorities include enhancing sovereignty, protecting territorial integrity and strengthening democracy. Our goal is also to ensure that the diversification process aligns with these strategic goals and it is within this framework that we conduct our policy," Grigoryan concluded.
