Until maps are agreed upon with Azerbaijan, border delimitation  process will not progress - Pashinyan

ArmInfo. No one can guarantee that even after the conclusion of the peace treaty, it will be  possible to avoid a new war with Azerbaijan. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told journalists on April 10.

He noted that the Second World War began immediately after the  conclusion of an agreement between the USSR and Germany, which  contained guarantees about not attacking. "There have never been such  guarantees in the history of mankind," Pashinyan said, commenting on  the question of whether the country's authorities will guarantee  peace to the people if four villages in the Tavush region of Armenia  are transferred under the control of Azerbaijan. Another question,  the prime minister continued, is when it comes to creating a system  of security guarantees for the Armenian state.

He added that not a single resident, be it the village of Voskepar or  any other settlement of the republic, was told about the possibility  of their transfer to anyone. "I have never spoken, and I have no  right to do so, to talk about the transfer of this or that part of  the country's territory to this or that state. The people must have  their say in any changes in the country's territory through a  referendum," Pashinyan said.  He announced that the information about  the transfer of the villages of Tavush region under the control of  Baku is an absolute lie and untrue.

"This has not happened, and cannot happen. This is just a lie spread  by anti-state forces on a paid basis in order to obtain political  dividends," the Prime Minister said.

He noted that the Kapan region is separated from the border by only a  few meters. The villages of Aygehovit, Berkaber, Aygepar are located  just a few tens of meters away. "We are talking about the need to  establish borders, which is directly related to security of our  state. But until the maps on which the border delimitation process is  planned to be carried out are agreed upon with Azerbaijan, this  process will not progress. As for the villages named Baghanis-Ayrum  or Nerkin Voskepar, they were not part of Soviet Armenia. there were  villages named Voskepar and Baghanis  on the territory of Soviet  Armenia and they will remain," the head of the Armenian government  emphasized.

He again recalled the principles of the 1991 Almaty Declaration,  according to which the countries of the former USSR recognize  administrative boundaries as state borders. However, there is a need  to de jure secure these borders using existing maps.

Pashinyan also answered the question about the possibility of  participating in the anniversary meeting of the Eurasian Economic  Union, which will be held on May 8 in Moscow. "The issue is being  discussed, when a decision is made, we will inform you about it," the  RA Prime Minister emphasized.
