"Culprit" for omissions in November 16 clashes found

So, late the night before, the Prosecutor General's Office issued a  statement stating that in connection with the attack by the  Azerbaijani Armed Forces on the combat positions of the Syunik and  Vayots Dzor regions of Armenia on November 16 of this year and the  outbreak of an aggressive war on the same day, a criminal case was  initiated in the Military Central Prosecutor's Office of Armenia.

"During the preliminary investigation, information was obtained that  the enemy unexpectedly attacked the personnel of the Armenian  position of the N military unit in Jermuk on the same day, but the  personnel did not take appropriate measures to detect or resist the  attack in time, which led to dire consequences. As a result of the  circumstances revealed in the course of the investigation, on  November 22, it was decided to initiate a new criminal case on the  grounds of Article 365, part 3. On suspicion of committing a criminal  act under Article 365, part 3, contract serviceman, acting battalion  commander, Major G.G. was detained, "the department said in a  statement.

The statement of the department states the above-mentioned commander,  who was tasked with guarding 11 combat positions, instead of  providing proper defense in case of an enemy attack, fled along with  7 servicemen. The department emphasized that these actions of G.G.  led to the fact that the Armenian side lost two combat positions, 11  soldiers were captured, the bodies of two of them were transferred to  the Armenian side on November 11 and  November 17. The aforementioned  major was taken into custody by a court decision.

Tigran Abrahamyan, an opposition MP from the "I have honor" bloc and  former adviser on the defense of the Artsakh President, assessed this  report of the Prosecutor General's Office.  "It is noteworthy that  this commander was responsible for the area in the direction of  Jermuk. Moreover, in this direction they speak of 11 prisoners and 2  victims. In the days of the Azerbaijani aggression the impression was  created that the main theater of hostilities is the Gorayk-Sisian  border, and the situation in the direction of Jermuk is just tense  and there is a shooting.  At the moment, two directions of the  Azerbaijani invasion are actually outlined, with captives and lost  positions, which have passed under the control of the enemy, "the  opposition MP noted, stating that if in the direction of Jermuk we  have about 11 captives and 2 dead, then if we take into account the  previously presented official data, on the Gorayk-Sisian border we  have 4 dead and 21 captives.

According to Abrahamyan, the last aggression of Azerbaijan was not  just an aggression for the Armenian side. According to him, this  aggression - apart from losing positions and up to three dozen  prisoners of war, became an unsuccessful test for the Armenian state,  where the authorities act as a "bad student" by failing everything  that is possible. "But at the same time, it continues to convince the  public that it is elected, therefore, the" unfavorable assessments  "of the country's leader are acceptable to the majority of the  citizens of Armenia," summed up Abrahamyan.  

On November 16 at about 1:00pm units of the Armed Forces of  Azerbaijan attacked the Armenian positions located in the eastern  direction of the border. The enemy used artillery, armored vehicles,  firearms of various calibers. As a result of the retaliatory actions  of the Armenian side, according to the RA Ministry of Defense, the  enemy has large losses in manpower and equipment. The Armenian side  also has losses.  

The RA Defense Ministry reported late in the evening on the same day  that according to the agreement reached with the mediation of the  Russian side, the fire in the eastern direction of the Armenian  border had been stopped from 6:30pm, the situation had relatively  stabilized. The RA Defense Ministry announced the names of six dead  Armenian servicemen and informed about the capture of 13 Armenian  servicemen by the enemy. It is noted that communication with another  24 military personnel has been lost. It was also reported about the  loss of two combat positions from the Armenian side.
