Andranik Kocharyan: Yerevan does not make demands on Russia; it just  wants all the clauses of the agreement to become reality in a timely  manner 

ArmInfo.Armenia appeals to the Russian Federation for assistance, first of all, in the issue of restoring the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia. It is  in this context that the proposals of the Russian Federation on the  delimitation and demarcation of the border should be considered.

This was stated by the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Armenian  Parliament on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan on November 19 at a  briefing in the parliament on the question of whether Armenia  continues to rely on military assistance from Russia.

"As a result of this process, it is expected that the problem will be  resolved that is the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia  will be restored. Consequently, military assistance from Russia or  the intervention of the Russian Federation is not an end in itself -  the most important task today is to ensure the inviolability of the  sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, while delimitation  and demarcation are the very tools, which will provide this result, "  he explained.

Answering the clarifying question of why, in this case, Armenia  applied for military assistance, Andranik Kocharyan, the head of the  Standing Committee on Defense and National Security of the National  Assembly, said: "Since there is a military-political agreement  between Armenia and Russia, and, secondly, Russia is the guarantor of  the ceasefire regime, for the preservation of which we must  consolidate our efforts, and that is why the Russian Federation has  something to do, and even if we do not appeal, cooperation with us  should become a reality in a timely manner ."

At the same time, in his words, some speculate that Armenia is making  demands on Russia. "We are not making demands, we just wish that all  the clauses of the agreements become reality in time," said the MP of  the ruling faction.  At the same time, as Aghajanyan pointed out,  only based on the results of the delimitation and demarcation  process, it will be possible to say whether you are satisfied with  the outcome of Armenia's appeal to Russia.

It should be reminded that on November 16, at about 1:00pm,  Azerbaijani Armed Forces units attacked Armenian positions located in  the eastern direction of the border. The enemy used artillery,  armored vehicles, and firearms of various calibers. As a result of  the retaliatory actions of the Armenian side, according to the RA  Ministry of Defense, the enemy has large losses in manpower and  equipment.  On the same day, Secretary of the Security Council of  Armenia Armen Grigoryan said on the air of the Public TV channel that  the Armenian authorities are appealing to Moscow with an appeal to  protect the sovereign territory of the republic from the attack of  Azerbaijani troops. "Since the attack was carried out on the  sovereign territory of Armenia, according to the agreement of 1997,  we appeal to the Russian Federation with an appeal to protect the  territorial integrity of Armenia. A written appeal is now being  prepared," Grigoryan noted, adding that Armenia expects Russia's  help.  Nevertheless, Armenian Ambassador to Moscow Vardan Toghanyan  told TASS that Armenia has not yet submitted to Russia an official  request for assistance in accordance with the 1997 Treaty of  Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in connection with the  aggravation on the border with Azerbaijan. "If we are talking about  an official written statement [with a request for assistance in  accordance with the Treaty], I still cannot confirm [the transmission  of the RF request]," the ambassador said. Toghanyan stated that  Russia and Armenia are holding consultations through military and  diplomatic channels in connection with the aggravation of the  situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.  On November 18, at a  government meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that  Russia had come up with new proposals on the delimitation and  demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, with which  Yerevan agrees.
