Forecast: There will be no breakthrough warming of relations between  Yerevan and Ankara.

ArmInfo.There will be no breakthrough warming of relations between Yerevan and Ankara.  Director of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan expressed a  similar opinion to ArmInfo.

"I don't think that today we can expect a breakthrough in relations  between Armenia and Turkey.  Moreover, we are talking about both a  warming between Yerevan and Ankara within the framework of bilateral  relations, and Armenia's support for the 3 + 3 platform promoted by  Turkey, in which it is planned to involve the three states of the  South Caucasus and regional Russia, Iran and Turkey itself, "he  stressed.

Earlier, the Turkish president announced about the proposal of the  Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for a meeting, conveyed to  him through the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili. "This  makes us think. If you want to meet, then certain steps must be  taken. We are not closed for meetings. The Prime Minister of Georgia  conveyed to me the proposal of the Prime Minister of Armenia for a  meeting.  But for this, Armenia must take positive steps. If this  meeting takes place, Turkey could establish diplomatic relations with  Armenia, "Erdogan said. Pashinyan's press secretary Mane Gevorgyan  did not refute or confirm Erdogan's statement.

Iskandaryan emphasized that the attempt to establish a dialogue  between Yerevan and Ankara is not new at all. In this light, he  assessed the initiative of Armenia's Prime Minister Pashinyan,  rather, as an attempt to reinvent the wheel. The political scientist  recalled that at the level of conversations, attempts to normalize  relations, open borders, etc. have already been undertaken, but they  all ended up at a standstill.

In this light, the political scientist recalled that in 2010, as part  of the Zurich attempt, it even came to "football diplomacy", however,  it also failed, once again bumping into the long-standing Turkish  preconditions towards Armenia. In this context, Iskandaryan considers  the once more frequent talks about the possibility of another change  in the weather between Ankara and Yerevan as another manifestation of  pressure from Turkey. At the same time, the purpose of the pressure,  in his opinion, has not changed either - Ankara is striving to push  through its preconditions again.

The political scientist explains the last statement by the current,  not the best situation in Armenia. Which inside the country itself is  seen through the eyes of people who suffered defeat in the war with  Azerbaijan and the same Turkey. In his opinion, correcting the  situation takes time, and getting rid of the defeat syndrome is a  purposeful work for the formation of not only ethno-cultural, but  also political identity of Armenians.  

"A lot of work has been done in the last three decades of  independence. However, there is still much to be done. And no one  promised us that it would be easy. It is impossible to build a real  state in such a short period of time, in principle, especially by  waging a relentless war for the liberation of Artsakh. The absence of  a corresponding attitude towards state institutions among Armenians  as a nation makes this process even more difficult. However, I can  say that the development of such an attitude is at the stage of  formation today, which is already quite good," Iskandaryan summed up.
