Putin informed Macron on progress in implementing agreements on Nagorno-Karabakh

ArmInfo. The situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban came to power was thoroughly discussed during a telephone conversation between Russian leader Vladimir Putin  and French President Emmanuel Macron.

According to the Kremlin, both sides noted the importance of ensuring the security of the civilian population and solving urgent humanitarian problems. They expressed their readiness through joint efforts, including within the framework of the UN Security Council  and the G20, to help establish peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The situation around the Iranian nuclear program was touched upon. The leaders spoke in favor of the continuation of negotiations on the resumption of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which is a significant factor in the matter of nuclear  non-proliferation. At the request of Emmanuel Macron, Vladimir Putin informed about the progress in the implementation of the trilateral statements on Nagorno-Karabakh of November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021. It was stated that the situation in the region is generally stable, steps are being taken to restore economic and transport links  in the South Caucasus and meet the humanitarian needs of the population. Mutual disposition was expressed for further joint work on various aspects of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, primarily in the OSCE Minsk Group.

An exchange of views was held on the problems of resolving the internal Ukrainian crisis. Concern was expressed in connection with the continuing tension in the south-east of Ukraine. Vladimir Putin drew attention to the destructive actions of Kiev, which has recently been purposefully exacerbating the situation on the contact line, as well as replicating provocative legislative initiatives that directly contradict the Minsk agreements.

They emphasized the need for the Kiev authorities to implement all the previously reached agreements, first of all, the Minsk "Package of Measures" of 2015 as an uncontested basis for settlement. In this regard, the disposition was confirmed to coordinate the efforts of Russia and France in the "Normandy format".

A number of other regional topics were discussed, including the African continent.
