Nikol Pashinyan: An absolute majority in National Assembly will allow  increasing efficiency of the parliament`s activities

ArmInfo. The absolute majority in the National Assembly of Armenia will allow increasing the efficiency of the parliament. The leader of the "My Step" bloc  which has won the elections, the acting Prime Minister of the  Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a press conference  in Yerevan, commenting on the results of the extraordinary  parliamentary elections held yesterday.

According to him, according to the results of the elections, the  citizens of the country, in fact, form an absolute constitutional  parliamentary majority, which will have no problems with the adoption  of legislative initiatives. As for the election process itself, then,  as noted by the acting prime minister, during their conduct, no  serious violations have been registered. As during the elections to  the Council of Elders of Yerevan, they were held at a high level.  "Some media outlets described this election as "annoying ", but I  give them a positive assessment," Nikol Pashinyan said. Speaking  about the low voter turnout, he stated that today no one can say for  sure about their actual number. Since 1991, citizens of the country  are put on the electoral lists and it is obvious to everyone that in  the last 15 years there have been significant changes in these lists.  Opposition at all times declared the presence of 100 thousand votes,  which were used by the authorities as a resource - these are "dead  souls", and the citizens who are not in the country, and electoral  "carousels". Many were taken to the polling stations. In particular,  the matter concerns over 150 thousand citizens over 75 years old who  have the right to vote, people with disabilities. "Even those people  who were at death's door were taken to the polling stations, just to  get the necessary number of votes," Nikol Pashinyan stressed, adding  that all this is now in the past. In addition, a number of voters,  realistically assessing the bloc's chances of winning, especially  considering bad weather conditions just decided not to go to voting.   The main resource of the winning bloc, according to the Acting Prime  Minister is citizens' activism, freedom of the press, and fair  elections. "The people gave us a mandate to continue the  anti-corruption policy, and this struggle will continue. The  government and parliament will continue to work towards improving the  institutions of democracy. The Electoral Code will also change. A  package of relevant amendments is already in place. It provides for a  rejection of the rating system election. "This issue needs to be  discussed. There is a proposal to exclude this system, but since  there is a lot of time before the next election, it is important to  discuss the issue in a relaxed atmosphere ", the acting head of the  Armenian government stated. But the main problem here, Nikol  Pashinyan believes, is having accurate electoral lists in order to  have a clear list of voters for each specific election. Obviously,  there are no 2.6 million voters in Armenia. This time everything was  simple, those citizens who did not want to participate in the  elections simply did not participate in the election process. Those  who participated did it openly and transparently.  "The choice is  made by voters, we will only take note of the results of the  elections", Nikol Pashinyan said.  To note, according to the results  of the elections, the "My Step" bloc received 70.43% of the votes,  Prosperous Armenia and Enlightened Armenia parties scored 8.37% and  6.37% of the votes, respectively. It is these three political forces  that enter the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. The  current elections were characterized by low voter turnout, which  amounted to 48.63% of voters, which is significantly lower than in  the previous parliamentary elections in 2017, when more than 60% of  voters came to the polls.
