The first meeting of the parliament of 7th convocation may be held on  December 24

ArmInfo. The first meeting of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation will take place not on December 31, as Assistant to PM of Armenia Mesrop Arakelyan  announced with joy, but on the 24th of December, if, of course, the  results of the elections are not appealed.

As Deputy Head of the NA Staff Arsen Babayan explained on his  Facebook page, according to the Electoral Code, the first sitting of  the NA is held on the second Monday after the formation of the  parliament. "If elections are held on December 9, and the final  results, according to the EC, the CEC will sum up in 7 days (if they  are not appealed), then the second Monday after the formation of the  seventh assembly comes on December 24," Babayan explained. Meanwhile,  the Central Election Commission has so far refrained from naming the  date of the first sitting of the National Assembly.

To note yesterday, Assistant Prime Minister Mesrop Arakelyan, on his  Facebook page, hastened to congratulate the people on the fact that  the first meeting of the parliament of the seventh convocation will  be held on December 31, and a new prime minister will be appointed  during it. However, the announcement of the assistant to the prime  minister turned out to be wrong not only in terms of the date of the  first meeting of the new parliament, but also in terms of the  "appointment" of the prime minister, since according to the NA  regulations, the National Assembly cannot ''appoint'', it can only  elect. Moreover, the prime minister cannot be elected or "appointed"  at the first sitting of the National Assembly, since the headship of  the parliament is formed and elected first.
