Ara Papnyan: Kurdistan`s formation activates Armenian issue, as well  the issue of recognition of Sevres Treaty

Now there are 2 factors that strongly influence the situation in Armenia and the region - the first of them is a global confrontation between Russia and the West,  including the Artsakh issue, and three times it is a referendum that must be held on September 25 in Iraq on the issue of creating Kurdistan. Ara Papyan, head of the Modus Vivendi research center, expressed such opinion at a press conference on August 29. 

According to him, Russia's expectations regarding the improvement of  relations with the United States on the arrival of Trump's power did  not come true, and Armenia faces a serious challenge in this light -  simultaneously to try to please Russia and not spoil relations with  the West at the same time. At the same time, the expert noted that  the only issue in which Russia and the United States are still  interacting is the Artsakh issue, since in the questions of Ukraine  and Syria, the opinions of the two countries do not coincide.  "However, there is already a confrontation in this issue, since the  statement on Karabakh by the former OSCE Minsk Group co-chairman  Richard Hoagland, who, in fact, did not say anything new, is due to  the fact that he wanted to remind Russia and Armenia again that The  United States is also involved in the process of settling the  Karabakh issue, Russia has always taken a leading position in the  negotiation process, however, recently the US has also stepped up and  it is likely that the balance of power will soon change, "Papyan  said.

Papyan also noted that against the backdrop of these processes  Armenia should raise the issue of recognizing the Treaty of Sevres,  which is the only document proving the right of the Armenian people  to their historical territories.

To note, according to the Treaty of Sevres, signed on August 10, 1920  in the city of Sevres, Turkey must transfer territory to Armenia an  area of 103 599 square meters. Km: two thirds of Wilayetes Van and  Bitlis, almost all Vilayet Erzurum, the greater part of the Trebizond  vilayet, including the port.  Having united with the Republic of  Armenia that existed in Trans Caucasus, an independent united  Armenian state would have an area of more than 150 thousand square  meters in total. km, with access to the Black Sea.
