Armenia and Turkmenistan confirmed readiness for substantive  cooperation in counteracting contemporary challenges and threats

ArmInfo. At the end of the one-on-one talks between the Presidents of Armenia and Turkmenistan, Serzh Sargsyan and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Turkmen- Armenian  high-level talks were held at the residence of the Armenian leader in  the expanded composition of government delegations.

Berdimuhamedov noted that the current level of trust and mutual understanding allows  Turkmenistan and Armenia to confidently build their relations for the  future, coordinate approaches to key issues of international  politics, form long-term plans for interaction in the economy, trade,  investment, cultural, Humanitarian sphere. 

The sides confirmed their readiness for substantive cooperation in  counteracting contemporary challenges and threats, such as  international terrorism, drug trafficking, cross-border crime.  "Turkmenistan regards Armenia as an important political partner, both  in the bilateral cooperation format and within the framework of  international organizations. Both countries are in favor of  strengthening universal peace, stability and security, strengthening  the role of the UN, respecting the universally recognized norms of  international law and the UN Charter, affirming equality, respect and  justice in global relations. A special place in the priorities of  bilateral relations is traditionally occupied by trade and economic  relations.  During the 8th meeting of the intergovernmental  Turkmen-Armenian commission for economic cooperation held in Yerevan  this March, it was noted that there is a serious potential for  expanding partnership in such areas as energy, transport, textile  industry, financial and banking, agro-industrial complex, healthcare  . Perspective is the proposal of Armenia in the field of information  technologies through the creation of joint Internet-provider  services. One of the issues on the agenda of cooperation is the  establishment of direct air communication between Ashgabat and  Yerevan. 

In the future, it would be possible to expand the geography of  flights towards third countries on the basis of the relevant  Memorandum of Understanding between the representatives of aviation  departments of the two countries and the intergovernmental Agreement  on air communication. The development of direct business ties between  the business circles of the two countries with the involvement of  private structures in interstate plans and programs has great  prospects. Alongside with trade and economic cooperation, the  deepening of humanitarian contacts is recognized as important. The  peoples of the two countries are linked by long- standing bonds of  friendship, and numerous historical evidences speak of close  Turkmen-Armenian ties, beginning with the early Middle Ages. Today  there is also an interest in cooperation in the sports sphere, "the  message says.
