
ArmInfo. The second joint meeting of the Armenian National Assembly's Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and the Russian Federation Council's Committee on International Affairs will take place in Moscow in 2017, according to the Committees' joint statement issued in Yerevan.
During the joint meeting, the Armenian and Russian lawmakers discussed issues of economic integration and cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), and expressed their intention to promote international cooperation within the EEU. The sides also pointed out the need for coordinated activities within international organizations. "The sides intend to intensify cooperation to resist various initiatives that contradict the states' interests," the statement says.
When discussing the joint efforts towards maintenance of regional peace and sustainable development, the sides pointed at the lack of alternative to the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict on the basis of international law, UN Charter, Helsinki Final Act.
The Armenian and Russian parliamentarians stressed the significance of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting the international efforts towards maintenance of regional and international security. "The sides give high priority to the arrangements reached at the meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Vienna and St. Petersburg, and consider any escalation in the conflict zone to be unacceptable," the statement says. They also support the OSCE Minsk Group efforts aimed at ensuring progress in the peace process.
To note, the Russian lawmakers paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey by visiting Tsitsernakaberd Memorial in Yerevan.
