Levon Ter-Petrosyan discussed with US Ambassador situation in conflict zone

Upon the initiative of U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills a meeting was held on May 12 with the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan. During the meeting the sides discussed issues related to the situation in the zone of Karabakh conflict after the April aggression, the press-service of Armenian National Congress informs. 
As the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs have stated peaceful settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh may be reached exclusively by negotiations, Ambassador Mills particularly noted. According to him the co-chair countries work towards building a constructive dialog between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Ambassador Mills mentioned that the co-chairs have repeatedly urged the conflicting sides to demonstrate political will aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the region as well as for establishing an atmosphere of trust, which will allow reaching progress in the negotiation process. Making such decisions is not an easy task but the Armenian leadership's statement about its commitment to peaceful process is encouraging.  
Levon Ter-Petrosyan in his turn stated about the necessity to implement mechanisms of monitoring along the line of contact in parallel with resuming the negotiation process.  According to the first president the parity approach of the international community towards the conflicting sides does not contribute to excluding of new clashes. On the contrary according to him this was one of the causes of military actions in the zone of conflict in early April.
