ArmInfo. Eduard Sharmazanov, a board member of the Republican Party of Armenia, criticized the law on the EU accession process, calling it a "gamble." In his Facebook post, he touched on Armenia's foreign policy, relations with Russia and the European Union, and the TRIP project.
"The 'EU accession' law, adopted by the Civil Contract Party, was essentially a gamble. We have been in a tragic situation for 8.5 years. That's a fact. We have lost part of our homeland – Artsakh – our country's territories are occupied, Azerbaijan continues to make new demands, and our authorities comply with them, presenting them as steps toward sovereignty." When the National Assembly adopted that useless law in 2025 to begin the process of joining the European Union, which was only voted against by the "I Have the Honor" faction representing the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), while the "Armenia" faction did not participate in the vote at all, we said it was a gamble. They may tell us that you adopted the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, but back then, Serzh Sargsyan had a "red line" – relations with Russia. What does this mean? Nikol Pashinyan doesn't care whether gas prices rise, because he's not paying for it, is he? Pashinyan cooked borscht, but the Armenian people will pay for it," the politician noted.
The politician emphasized that today the European Union and Russia are in a tense confrontation. It is impossible to receive the benefits and privileges of the EAEU and simultaneously join the EU. "Russia has already given us an ultimatum. Now let Nikol Pashinyan and the ruling party explain what benefit this law has brought? We're only seeing the tip of the iceberg, only public statements; we don't know what Pashinyan is discussing with EU representatives and Putin behind the scenes. And they're very important. The leader of Armenia shouldn't be pro-Russian, pro-Western, or especially pro-Turkish, but exclusively pro-Armenian. Pashinyan is not pro-Russian, and there is ample evidence of this: Armenia froze its membership in the CSTO, and the CSTO is mainly Russia; France opened a consulate in Syunik, and this is unacceptable in relation to Russia; there are no Russian observers in Armenia, but there are observers from the European Union. And most importantly, the trilateral agreement of November 9 no longer exists," Sharmazanov noted.
The politician added that no matter how much Pashinyan wanted to revive the November 9 agreement today, he will not be able to do so because there is a document from August 8, signed in the United States - TRIPP. "Is this 'for' or 'against' Russian interests? Not to mention the fact that the entire 'State Duma' Accused Russia of waging a hybrid war against Armenia and called the entire opposition "Russian spies" and "the fifth column," wrote a member of the RPA board.
