Staff of the Ombudsman’s Office, with the participation of representatives of state bodies, discussed the problems of arranging meetings between parents deprived of their liberty and their children.

Arminfo.  Staff members of the Human Rights Defender’s Office, together with representatives of competent state bodies, discussed practical issues related to organizing meetings between parents deprived of liberty and their children, as well as possible mechanisms for resolving them.  This is stated in a release from the Ombudsman’s Office.

According to the source, issues concerning ensuring the right to communicate in cases where a child is unlawfully taken to a foreign state were also discussed. The Human Rights Defender’s Office noted that representatives of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, as well as the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, took part in the meeting.  Practical issues related to organizing meetings between parents deprived of liberty and their children, the role of the competent bodies involved in the process, as well as possible mechanisms for resolving existing problems and effectively organizing meetings were discussed. The meeting also addressed issues concerning ensuring the right to communicate with a child in cases where the child is unlawfully transferred to a foreign state. Particular attention was paid to issues raised as a result of monitoring and discussions,  as well as further steps and opportunities for cooperation aimed at resolving them.
