ArmInfo. Another gift from the European Union has been delivered to Armenia: two remotely operated mine-clearing vehicles. The government press service reported this.
According to the source, the vehicles, each weighing approximately 20 tons, will assist in humanitarian demining efforts in dangerous areas of the republic.
Such areas are located in five regions of the country - Syunik, Tavush, Vayots Dzor, Ararat, and Gegharkunik - and cover approximately 43 million square meters of contaminated land. These areas are primarily designated for agricultural work and pastures, as well as for infrastructure. Clearing these areas of mines will not only allow for the use of infrastructure but also the use of agricultural land. The new equipment will also be used in the process of demarcating the state border between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. It will help reduce the number of accidents and promote socio- economic development in the territories.
Last December, an agreement was signed in Yerevan between Armenia and the EU, according to which Brussels will allocate ?15 million for a program to strengthen the country's resilience, as part of which the relevant equipment was provided. In addition to the two vehicles, Armenia will soon receive two fully equipped ambulances.
