ArmInfo. The decision of the Constitutional Court of Armenia, which upheld the parliamentary election results, does not resolve the issue of the legitimacy of the emerging government. This is stated in a joint statement by the Strong Armenia and Armenia blocs, the Prosperous Armenia, Armenian National Congress, and National Democratic Pole parties.
According to the authors of the statement, the government formed under such conditions and with the recorded results lacks legitimacy. The Constitutional Court's decision does not correct the election fraud, does not eliminate the widespread violations of electoral law, and does not resolve the profound political and legal crisis in the country. On the contrary, the categorical refusal of the final authority to record violations exacerbates the current crisis in the country, does not contribute to the formation of an atmosphere of national solidarity, and shifts the struggle to the field of political resistance.
Therefore, in order to overcome the current political crisis and restore constitutional order, the undersigned political forces declare their agreement on the following fundamental directions and the formation of a unified political agenda:
1. Preventing violent amendments to the Constitution of Armenia. Viewing the constitutional amendments being prepared by the current administration as external coercion, we will use all legislative, public, and political means to prevent the amendments to the Basic Law, which constitute a direct and irreversible blow to the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia.
2. Protecting the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church. Given the systematic illegal campaign waged against the Church, the Catholicos of All Armenians, the cornerstone of our political agenda will be the protection of the exclusive mission of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, its rights, property, and reputation from any encroachment, as guaranteed by Article 18 of the Constitution.
3. Protecting the rights of political prisoners. A new wave of political repression began in the post-election period. Repressive actions carried out in the country in parallel with the electoral and political processes have led to a sharp increase in the number of political prisoners. Our joint steps will be aimed at protecting their rights and demanding their immediate release.
4. Overthrow of the current government. The consideration of the opposition forces' complaints in the Constitutional Court has only confirmed that the overthrow of the current regime is an urgent necessity with no alternative. Therefore, a change of power and the formation of a new, high-quality national government remain the only conditions for restoring constitutional order, establishing solidarity, and ensuring security in the country. We understand that, in the face of the destruction of legal institutions, the only guarantor of the preservation of the state and constitutional order remains the citizen of the Republic of Armenia. Therefore, the Constitutional Court's decision is not the end of the struggle, but the beginning of a new, more systematic, institutional, and large-scale phase of political resistance. Discussions on the actions to be taken by opposition political forces on the above-mentioned points are ongoing. We will soon inform you of further steps arising from these discussions, including possible joint programs," the statement reads.
