ArmInfo. A new youth space has opened in the village of Geghakert in the Khoy community of the Armavir region. It will be the sixth such center created in Armenia's regions under the "Youth in Action: Empowering and Mobilizing Young People in Armenia" program. The EU Delegation to Armenia announced this on its Facebook page.
At the opening ceremony, Vasilis Maragos, Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, stated that the youth spaces operating in the Armavir, Shirak, Lori, Syunik, Gegharkunik, and Tavush regions should become "laboratories of democracy." According to him, young people will be able to develop critical thinking, dialogue skills, tolerance, and civic responsibility here, as well as access non-formal education programs, volunteer initiatives, civic engagement projects, leadership development, and community initiatives.
The EU Ambassador also emphasized that the activities of all six youth spaces are enshrined in memoranda of understanding signed with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Armenia, which should ensure the continuation of youth services after the project's completion.
As a reminder, Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan previously stated that developing a network of youth centers is a priority for state youth policy. According to the Armenian government's program for 2021-2026, 25 youth centers are planned to be established in the country's regions.
The Youth in Action: Empowering and Mobilizing Young People in Armenia project is implemented by the Youth Initiative Centre in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Armenia, World Vision Armenia, and the Media Initiative Centre, with co-financing from the EU and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The program aims to increase youth participation in public life, develop leadership skills, civic engagement, and media literacy.
