Armenia bloc calls on international observers, foreign diplomatic  missions to respond to situation in country

ArmInfo.  The Armenia (Hayastan) Bloc of second President Robert Kocharyan has appealed to embassies accredited in Armenia and international organizations conducting observation missions, expecting an adequate response and assessment of the actions of the Armenian authorities in the context of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The bloc's statement stated that the period leading up to the June 7  elections is taking place amid unacceptable tension in the domestic  political atmosphere and has clearly gone beyond the scope of  political struggle. It notes that the current regime is attempting to  silence political opponents, neutralize citizens' freedom of speech,  suppress freedom of expression, and deepen an atmosphere of fear and  internal strife in the country.

"The unconstitutional and criminally punishable behavior and  instruments used by the deepening authoritarian regime make free and  competitive elections impossible. The regime pursues only one goal:  to achieve replication through the unacceptable use of force and  administrative resources against opposition forces and dissidents,"  the political force stated.

The Armenia bloc emphasized that this goal is being achieved through  punitive and unconstitutional actions, including: criminal  prosecution and persecution, institutional repression; selective  justice; flagrant abuse of administrative resources; open and public  punitive orders issued by the head of administration to the  prosecutor's office and law enforcement agencies, including orders to  imprison or punish political opponents; public intimidation, threats  of reprisals, and calls for revenge against the population,  individual citizens, and leaders of leading opposition forces;  Obscene language, targeted persecution, incitement to hatred,  deepening an atmosphere of internal division and hostility, and  creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.

In this context, it is recalled that on May 17, 2026, an Armenian  citizen committed suicide by hanging himself in a psychiatric  hospital after being detained for tearing down a ruling party  election banner (although, as lawyers noted, this act carries  administrative punishment, not criminal penalties - ed.).

It is added that on May 18, Nikol Pashinyan made unprecedented  threats against his three main political opponents, as well as  ordinary citizens, on live television, accompanied by calls for  revenge and obscene language.

"Unfortunately, the double standards, biased approach, and  inappropriate behavior of international organizations exacerbate the  climate of impunity in Armenia, discredit international institutions,  and undermine faith in democracy, seriously calling into question the  West's collective interest in the formation of a government in  Armenia based on genuine democratic principles. We appeal to the  embassies accredited in Armenia and international organizations  conducting observation missions, expecting an adequate response and  assessment. We anticipate an urgent meeting for a more thorough  discussion, presentation, and assessment of the unconstitutional  process adopted by the authorities," the political party's statement  reads.
