European Parliament  supports  strengthening Armenia`s democratic  resilience

ArmInfo. The European Parliament has adopted a resolution on supporting Armenia's democratic resilience by a majority vote. 476 members voted in favor, 47 voted against, and 48 abstained. The resolution was adopted at the  plenary session of the European Parliament on April 30, according to  media reports.

The draft resolution, which was previously published, expressed  support for free, fair, and peaceful parliamentary elections in  Armenia in June 2026, emphasizing that the results of the elections  should be determined solely by the people of Armenia. It also noted  the need to combat disinformation, illegal financing, and  vote-buying. 

"Parliament also welcomes the momentum behind stronger EU-Armenia  relations and Armenia's continued commitment to democracy, the rule  of law, human rights, and ambitious political and economic reforms.   This includes the adoption of the new strategic agenda for the  EU-Armenia partnership, , progress in the implementation of the   EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced partnership Agreement, the  advances in visa-liberation dialogue  and the continued  implementation of the resilience and growth plan.  MEPs also approve  of the holding of both the eighth European political Community Summit  and the first ever EU-Armenia Summit in Yerevan on 4 and 5 May 2026  as a historic milestone, their presence in the Armenian capital an  unambiguous signal of pan-European solidarity with Armenia and of the  EU's commitment to supporting Armenia's peace, reform and resilience  agenda.  Parliament further welcomes Armenia's adoption of  legislation expressing the country's aspiration for EU membership and  calls on the EU institutions and the Armenian authorities to support  this political choice with practical steps.

The resolution strongly supports Armenia's continued efforts towards  peace, reconciliation and the full normalization of relations with  Azerbaijan. MEPs welcome progress achieved in the peace process and  calls on both sides to move towards a comprehensive, legally binding  peace agreement, while stressing that any sustainable peace must be  grounded in respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and the  inviolability of borders."

The resolution condemns the detention of Armenian prisoners in  Azerbaijan and demands their immediate release. The resolution  welcomes the increased cooperation between the EU Monitoring Mission  and civil society and calls for increased EU financial and technical  support to Armenia, particularly in  energy, digital, and economic  resilience.

The resolution supports the normalization of Armenia-Turkey relations  with the aim of opening borders and promoting regional stability. The  resolution strongly condemns foreign information manipulation and  interference, disinformation campaigns, and other hybrid threats  directed against Armenia, notably by Russia and its proxies.
