Tbilisi is Ready to Assist Residents of Abkhazia in Connection with Mass Intoxication with Water

Tbilisi. The government of Abkhaz Autonomous Republic, acting
in Tbilisi, stated about its readiness to assist residents of Abkhazia,
uncontrolled by the Georgian central authorities, where numerous cases  of intoxication with polluted water were
reported.

Residents of Abkhazia began appealing to
medical institutions with a diagnosis acute enteric infection on November 24.
230 persons appealed to the hospital of Tkvarcheli town during three days. At
the present time 37 people are treated 
in Tkvarcheli hospital, 20 people, mainly children, undergo  treatment in Sukhumi Infectious Hospital.

"This case is connected with drinking
water, it mixed with sewerage effluents. The Abkhaz government and the Ministry
of Health Care of Abkhazia are ready to render any assistance to the people.
These our brothers, compatriots", Minister of Labor, Health acre and
Social Protection of Abkhaz AR Ketevan Bakaradze said on Thursday, November 28.

After the war in August 2008, Russia
recognized unilaterally independence of 
Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region (so called South Ossetia). In response,
Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced Abkhazia and
South Ossetia, where Russian military bases were dislocated, occupied
territories.

The new Georgian government, which was
formed as a result of the victory of the Georgian Dream coalition at the
parliamentary elections, stated about its intention to improve relations with
Russia, but not at expense of concessions 
in the issue of territorial integrity of Georgia.
